    The Big Finish–The Marathon

    I am a marathoner finisher! At 67 years old, I ran and completed my first marathon on December 4, 2016. There was a range of emotions from elation to complete physical and emotional exhaustion. I asked myself what made this possible and probably more importantly, why at my age? As I reflect back, I think I needed the focus of a goal and structure in my day.     What’s Different this Time Around?

    About this time last year, I quit my training for my first marathon, the CIM Sacramento Marathon in December. Several things derailed me from my long-held goal. We were stranded in last year’s historical flooding in South Carolina, so I was unable to run the long distances required for a couple of weeks while on vacation. I   knew I couldn’t catch up.     3 Life Lessons of a Midlife Woman Runner

    I’m well into my training schedule to get to my December goal of completing a full marathon. I’m doing my plan and have a great supportive running group. My Saturday long runs certainly give me extended periods of time to think about why I’m doing better than ever before. I came up with several lessons I’ve learned which I can apply to life.
