As I go through my weekly training program (2 3-5 mile runs midweek and a long weekend run), I’ve noticed that temporary dread when I think about doing 8 miles on Saturday morning. Can I really do it again? It feels so overwhelming to me. So…I go through my routine—morning coffee, water, light snack, get my running clothes and shoes on. Add the heavy electronics–GPS/heart rate monitor watch and my ipod. And out the door. I just think one step, one length at a time. Sometimes even one song or one podcast at a time. It works. I move past the dread of the overwhelming task at hand, through those troughs of mental and physical fatigue and onto that end game feeling of accomplishment and completion. Feels great…and all it took was….one step at a time!
The next 1/2 marathon race is only 10 days away! Countdown!

Hi Cherryll! I know the dreaded feeling of a long run…the best thing i do to get myself through it is..DONT THINK ABOUT IT! 🙂
Once you have your shoes on, your music cranked up, and you’ve got one mile behind you, its much easier- That first mile is always the toughest.
i’ve learned the hardest part about running a marathon or a 1/2 marathon is the training!
Good luck! You’re doing great!
